Excavators from the Beginning

How a hydraulic excavator works and how it is driven: the linkage and the oil, the pumps, valves and engine, the ground and stability, the controls and the simulator, digging, trenching, loading, grading and lifting, safety, maintenance and planning. Every plate runs the machine it describes.

This course is not operator training and gives no right to operate a machine; the simulator is a model, not a qualification. Operating an excavator at work needs the training, assessment and authorisation the local rules require, and the machine's own manual. Not affiliated with or endorsed by any maker, standards body, training scheme or institution mentioned here; trade names belong to their owners. The Ridge machines are the course's own and do not represent any real model.
